Obituary
On November 3, 1927, our beloved Mary Dean Benton was born to the late Mr. Seal and Mrs. Mattie Lou Jackson. She was the only child of that union. Growing up in Newton County, she attended its public schools. For over twenty years, she was a dedicated employee of Hercules, Inc., retiring in 1989.
In 1991 she went to work for Newton County Schools as a Cafeteria Monitor. She was a loyal worker for three years before she decided to retire a second time. Mary was a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church of Covington, GA and an active member in its "Young at Heart" senior ministry.

Mary dedicated her life to her children, family and friends. She was a very humble lady and had a very strong faith and was a true friend to all of her friends especially Mrs. Corrine "Ms. Sweet" Sawyer. Her home was always open to everyone that she knew, she made everyone feel welcomed and embraced them with love. She was a very loving person always wearing a smile, even in her last days she would think about others. Anyone that has ever known "Winky" as she was affectionately called by her loved ones and friends knew her to be a warm hearted and spirited person.
A person that loved to dance in her younger days and still had a few moves left which she demonstrated just days before her passing. Just as she cherished her children like precious gems, her children cherished her like the precious jewel that she was.

She departed this earthly life on May 25, 2015 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death, by her husband, Mr. Scott Benton, three of her eleven children: Artie Benton, Margaret Ann Holloway, Scott Benton Jr. and one brother Jimmy Jackson.
Mary went home to be with the Lord while doing what she loves doing best, being surrounded by her loved ones. We were by her side until the very end, although she will be missed greatly she will live in our hearts forever. Don't shed tears of sorrow, rejoice for her because she is truly resting in peace and is in no more pain.
She leaves to cherish her memories, four daughters; Rev. & Mrs. Kenneth (Pearlene) Morgan, Mr. & Mrs. David (Lucille) Holloman, Mrs. Sandra Ammons and Mrs. Mary Frances Allison, four sons; Mr. Clarence Benton, Mr. & Mrs. Jerome (Frances) Benton, Mr. & Mrs. Emmanuel (Hazel) Benton and Mr. Larry Benton, four sisters, Mrs. Willie Mae Brooks, Mrs. Majorie Starks, Mrs. Trellie Clarke and Mrs. Marilyn Jackson, four brothers, Mr. Larry Jackson, Mr. Nicholas Jackson, Mr. Danny Jackson and Mr. Greg Jackson, two sisters-in-law; Mrs. Corrine Berry, Cleveland, OH and Mrs. Bonnie Ruth Benton; a son-in-law Mr. Bernard Ammons; step-mother Mrs. Grace Jackson, twenty- eight grandchildren, thirty- four great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.
