Reflections of our Beloved..........
Mrs. Betty Jean Mullins Banks was the oldest of six children born in Newton County to the late, Mr. Willie Frank Mullins and Mrs. Hattie Cunningham Mullins on April 27, 1940. She accepted Christ at an early age at Union Grove United Methodist Church and later joined Bethabara Missionary Baptist Church.

She was a member of the 1957 graduating class of R.L. Cousins High School, Covington, Georgia. After 30 years of service with the Newton County School System, she retired in 2002 with most of her tenure at Livingston Elementary School.

Betty was also a member of Morris Brown Chapter #130 Order of the Eastern Star. A great humanitarian and volunteered in the following organizations: Habitat for Humanity, Washington Street After-School Program, Newton County Hospital Auxiliary, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Newton-Walton Counties and Choices for Children.

A faithful member of Bethabara Missionary Baptist Church serving as a Deaconess, on the Mother Board and the Secretary of the Senior Usher Board. She also served as chairman for various programs including the Annual "50 State Rally".

Classy, jazzy and always dressed for the occasion, she was known as the family historian. She knew how every family member was connected going back through generations. She didn't just call and say I'm your long lost relative; she called, visited and re-established relationships. Betty also enjoyed sewing and needlepoint especially for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with her "Weaver".

Betty received her crown of life on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. She was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. Randolph (Moon) Mullins.

She leaves to rejoice in this life, a devoted husband of 57 years, Mr. Weaver D. Banks Jr., three children, Mr. & Mrs. Michael (Deborah) Banks; Mr. &  Mrs. Isaac (Cynthia) Bostick; Ms. Debra White, all of Covington, Georgia, mother, Mrs. Hattie Mullins, Covington, Georgia, four brothers, Mr. & Mrs. James (Juanita) Mullins, Covington, Georgia, Mr. & Mrs. John (Ida) Mullins, Lithonia, Georgia, Mr. & Mrs. Woodrow (Linda) Mullins, Covington, Georgia and Mr. & Mrs. Wayne (Florence) Mullins, Augusta, Georgia, sister-in-law, Ms. Fannie Banks, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
