William W. Smith, Jr., of Covington, passed away on August 7, 2014, at the age of 85. He was a faithful member of Greater Grace Church in Covington, where he served as an elder. Mr. Smith was retired from Dart Container, where he was a truck driver for 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and volunteering his time to help those in need. Smith loved people and he never met a stranger. He was loved and will be missed by a host of family and friends. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Lula and William Smith, and sisters, Ann Morris, Ruby Jones and Betty McFeren.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Gladys Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Marvin Rhear of Cumming; sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Pam Smith, Ricky and Patricia Smith, all of Conyers, and Donald and Barbara Smith of Covington; grandchildren, Lisa Jillson of Vero Beach, Florida, Suzanne Smith of Satsuma, Alabama, Jessica Salmon of Covington, Krystal Smith of Mansfield, Katie Seymour of Milledgeville, and Brian Smith of Conyers; four great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Smith will be held Sunday, August 10, 2014, 2 p.m., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Pastor Winston Menzies and Pastor Doug Nelms will be officiating with interment to follow in New Covington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday, August 9, from 6 – 8 p.m. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.

Mr. Wesley Berg, aged 67, of Newborn, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. He was born on March 6, 1958, in Atlanta. Mr. Berg grew up in Decatur and graduated from Shamrock High School. He was a dedicated Christian who had a passion for mission work and helping others, frequently traveling to disaster-stricken areas to assist those in need. Mr. Berg was a committed member of Centennial Baptist Church. As a hardworking individual, he owned and operated Berg Heating and Air.

He was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Margine Tribble, and his stepsister, Lynn Daniel. Mr. Berg is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dawn Berg; his siblings, Vincent Berg, Judy Berg, Katherine Berg, Karen Berg, and Krysten Berg; his stepbrother, Bobby Tribble, and Carol Schneider; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other family members, and many close friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2025, at Centennial Baptist Church, 5321 Brownwood Rd, Rutledge, GA 30663, with Reverend Terry Richardson and Reverend Wilburn Hill officiating.
