Stephen Joseph Brown, 72, of Logansport, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, in his residence after a battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 26, 1941 in Huntington, W.Va., he was the son of the late James A. Brown and the late Louise Hope Davis Brown. He was married July 7, 2007, to Martha Kiser Richards Brown, who survives.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Stephen served in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1979 after a 21-year military career.

Stephen attended Life Gate Church. He also belonged to the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a life member of the DAV. A member of the North American Fishing Club, Stephen loved to go fishing. He also enjoyed building things and gardening.

Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Michelle Ann Miller of Hornell, N.Y., Denise Yvonne Beckert and her husband, Jay, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lisa Diane Colley of Covington; four stepdaughters, Rebecca Richards of South Bend, Carol Koechle of Tucson, Ariz., Julia Brouliette of Pinesville, La., and Ginny McDade of Savoy, Ill.; one stepson, Dean Richards of Logansport; two brothers, David Brown of Huntington, W. Va., and Michael Brown of Loganville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many beloved step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Stephen Brown.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. March 1 in Fisher Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Andy Weil officiating.

Interment will be in the Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Ind.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday in the funeral chapel.
