Jesse D. Patten, 79, of Covington, died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Newton Medical Center. Mr. Patten was born in Richland to the late Jesse Greene and Viola Gunnels Patten.
Mr. Patten had many nicknames such as “JD”, “Pat” and “Pop” and was the owner and operator of Bailey’s Grocery Store, and other area stores. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Patten was a great lover of the outdoors, especially fishing.
He is survived by his children Don (Debbie) Patten, of Conyers, and Jessica Patten, of Charleston, WV, Raymond Vorhes, Covington, and Michael Vorhes, of Covington; grandchildren, Megan Patten, Jessica Howell, Rachel Martin, Nicole Patten, Cheyenne Patten, Christina Patten, Christopher Vorhes, Jeremy Vorhes, Dannielle Ingram, and Jarrett Vorhes; sisters, Evelyn Brooks, Monroe, GA and Joan Summerfield of Morganton, NC. and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents Mr. Patten is preceded in death by his grandson Roy Dallas Glover.
A memorial service will be held at The Church at Covington, at 2 p.m. Wednesday Sept/ 17, 2014 with Pastor Judy Sutton officiating. In lieu of flowers donations in Jesse D. Patten’s name may be made to DNR Fisheries 2070 Hwy. 278 SE Social Circle, GA 30025.
