Mr. Harold Walter Smith, Sr., 83, died on Saturday April 30, 2016, at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation. The Crawford native was born into a large farming family of seven sisters and a brother. He attended school until the sixth grade but had to return to the family farm. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. When he returned from his military service he met his wife Rose Marie Manery at Grant Park and they were married for 54 years. He was a hard worker and retired from Emory University after 33 years of service as the head of maintenance. He loved being outdoors and working on cars, he never met a stranger and helped everyone. He was a God honoring man; he was the best father anyone could have. His family was priority in his life, and he enjoyed spending time with his family, going to church and camping. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Surviving are four children Lisa Perry, Linda Condon, Yulanda Sims and her fiancé Hovis Leggett and a Harold and Kerry Smith, Jr.; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and six sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 7, 2016, at 4 p.m. at New Life Praise Center in Covington.
