Mildred Hutchison St.Clair, 82, of Covington, passed away October 9, 2016. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. St.Clair regarded her children’s spouses as if they were her own children. She began her career with AT&T in Richmond, Virginia, as a secretary and retired as a troubleshooter technician after 38 years of service. St. Clair was a servant of the churches she attended no matter where she called home. St.Clair was passionate about music, especially gospel, and enjoyed singing, as well as playing the piano and organ. She was the oldest of eight siblings, loving each of them dearly. St.Clair fought a valiant fight against breast cancer for 27 months, never complaining. Her strong faith in God meant she didn’t fear the future. St.Clair was preceded in death by her mother and father, Dorothy and Luster Hutchison; grandson, Seth St.Clair.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Roger G. St.Clair; daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi and Charles E. Sparks, Sr., of Covington; sons and daughters-in-laws, Roger (Ken) and Melody St. Clair, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Ronald D. and Sharmond St.Clair, of Covington; grandchildren, Amber St.Clair, and Justin of Clayton, North Carolina, Brandon and Stephanie St.Clair, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Rhyan Scaggs of Brooklyn, NY, J Sparks, Jr., Chase Sparks, Cara Sparks of Covington; great-grandchildren, Caitlin Bobbitt, Hailey St.Clair, both of Roanoke Rapides, North Carolina, Teigan Tart of Clayton, North Carolina; sisters, Doris H. Chandler of Powhatan, Virginia, Betty H. Jones, Lucy and John Gillaspie, all of Blue Ridge, Virginia, Linda and Billie Harmon, Bonnie and Calvin LaPradd, all of Roanoke, Virginia; brothers and sister-in-law, E. Wayne and Darlene Hutchison, Leonard T. Hutchison, all of Roanoke, Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews; a lifetime friend, Christine Trent of Bedford, Virginia.

Funeral Services for Mrs. St.Clair will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016, 3 p.m., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with Pastor Brandon Stanley officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home, prior to her service, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
