Mary Florence (McCord) Garner, of Covington, after living 94 wonderful years, peacefully passed away on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018.

A celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Covington.

Mary was born in Centreville, Alabama on Feb. 12, 1924 to her parents, Howard Furman and Irene McCord. She spent her adult life supporting her husband in his military career and raising their five children.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Sidney "Sid" Garner and her devoted daughter, Carol Garner. Mary is survived by her sister, Nell Toenes, her sons and daughters-in-law: Joe and Carol Garner, Rob and Linda Garner, and Brooks and Katrina Garner; and her son Donald Garner. Mrs. Garner was blessed to be the loving grandmother to 13 grandchildren and, incredibly, 17 great-grandchildren!

Mary Garner was a devout follower of Christ. Trusting in Jesus and drawing nearer to Him each day, each moment, was her life's goal. She was the living embodiment of Colossians 3:12-15. It was Mary's sincere desire that all will come to know Christ and abide in His love. The lives touched by Mary, this champion of the faith, are innumerable.

The family prefers that memorial donations be made to Merryvale Assisted Living 11980 GA-142, Oxford, GA 30054, or Trinity Presbyterian Church 11171 U.S. 278E, Covington, GA 30014 or your favorite charity in memory of Mary, instead of sending flowers.
