Martha “Jene” Eugenia Lloyd, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 8, 2022.
Affectionately known to many as Jene or more notably as “Grandma Jene,” she was born on May 28, 1936, in Atlanta, Georgia. Jene was preceded in death by her precious parents, Jimmie Carl and Irene Ward of Atlanta, GA; her beloved daughter, Brenda Dykes of Covington, GA; her dear grandson, Branden Dykes of Covington, GA; her loving brothers, Jimmie Carl Ward (Jeannette) of Stockbridge, GA and Charles Ward (Clara) of Decatur, GA; and one sister, Clara Mae Smith of Atlanta.
Jene graduated from Murphy High School in 1953 and furthered her education in technical school in downtown Atlanta. Later on in life she became a licensed insurance agent and worked many years in that industry before switching over to Newton Federal Savings and Loans as a bookkeeper and accountant, upon which she retired in 2002.
She thoroughly enjoyed numerous trips to the mountains, beaches, lunch dates with friends and family, a variety of craft fairs, bowling, country line dancing, venturing to concerts, living life on the lake, and attending just about anything that involved her constantly growing family. She is thankful to the community at Lovejoy United Methodist Church for always being such a joy to be around and their continual thoughtfulness.
Her biggest accomplishments were her children: Cindy Anderson (Bobby), Jennifer Dowd (David), Dale Johnson (Brenda), John Johnson(Maureen Fleeming) and the late Brenda Dykes. Her legacy includes nine grandchildren: Heather Braswell (Brian), Lisa Joyce (Steven), Nikki Henderson (Matt), Brian Dykes, Jessica Moses (Keith), Megan Gladson (Michael), Alicia Clement(Andy), Christina Nittollo (Anthony) and the late Branden Dykes (Misty). Our beloved Grandma Jene is also survived by her great grandchildren: Josiah Joyce, Victoria Johnson, Maleah Galdson, Bryson Braswell, Annabelle Joyce, Jacob Braswell, Addison Joyce, Eli Henderson, Owen Henderson, Emma Dykes, Andrew Braswell, Jackson Moses, Silas Joyce,Gracie Dykes, Ezra Joyce, Sawyer Moses, William Gladson, Everett Clement, Lydia Jene Joyce, Bodhi Nittolo, Wesley Gladson, Mary Brooke Gladson, Edith Clement and Dylan Nittolo. A sincere thank you and appreciation to the staff and friends at The Oaks of Ashton Hills, Covington, for the wonderful care they gave to our sweet Grandma Jene. She will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved her. We hold tight to the truth that she was welcomed into the gates of heaven with the words, “well done good and faithful servant.”
