Marilyn Smith Gregory of Covington, passed away November 22, 2011, at the age of 68. Mrs. Gregory was an active member of Covington First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and Secretary of the Josie Goode Sunday School Class. She was one of the founding members of the Satsuki Garden Club, Newton County Soccer, and the Covington First United Methodist Church Preschool Program. Mrs. Gregory volunteered her time with several different organizations including the Red Cross, Newton County Clean and Beautiful, and was also a Pink Lady volunteer. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Gregory was preceded in death by her parents, Red and Sue (Thompson) Smith.

 

Survivors include her husband, J.O. (Buster) Gregory, Jr., of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, Joel and Laurel Gregory of Athens, Jeb and Amy Gregory of Watkinsville; granddaughter, Riley Ann Gregory.

 

A Graveside Service for Mrs. Gregory will be held Saturday, November 26, 2011, 11:00 AM, at Covington City Cemetery, with Rev. Dr. Douglas Gilreath, Rev. Jan McCoy, and Rev. Dr. Royeese Stowe officiating. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, Friday, November 25, from 1:00-3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covington First United Methodist Church, Food Pantry, 1113 Conyers Street SW, Covington, GA 30014; or the American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA  30605.
