Lillie Mae H. Dodd, of Covington, died October 3, 2009, at Newton Medical Center, from heart failure. She was born in Fulton County to the late John Paul and Sally Holder on June 16, 1918. She was a member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church from 1930 to 1956 and in 1956 joined Lovejoy United Methodist Church, where she was very involved in the several youth programs, was a MYF leader, a member of The United Methodist Women and a Sunday school teacher. She was a tireless supporter of all church programs and remained enthusiastically involved in all church activities until her illness. Mrs. Dodd was a self employed beautician for many years, retiring in 1999. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, and loved to travel domestically as well as internationally. Mrs. Dodd was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Clyde Watson Dodd. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Donna and David Ayer of Cartersville; son, Richard Dodd of Covington, formerly of New York; grandchildren, Jeannie Hall, Denise and Marcus Turner, Alan and Stacy Patterson; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jarrod Hutto, Jennifer and David Gilbert, Alex Patterson; great-great grandchildren, Anna Lillie Hutto, Daniel Gilbert; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Dodd will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2:00 PM, at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, with Rev. John Whatley officiating and interment following in Lovejoy United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on the day of service from 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM.
