John O. Bender, Sr., of Covington, died October 21, 2009, at the age of 86. Mr. Bender served in the Army Air Force during World War II as a flight engineer in the European African Theatre. He owned a car dealership known as Johnny Bender Motors on Covington Hwy. He later worked as Sales manager for Ford, Dodge, and Chevrolet in Atlanta. He had a passion for air craft and automobiles. Mr. Bender was preceded in death by his son, Terry Bender; and parents, Cecil Carlton and Idella Aides Bender.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Dot) Bender; sons and daughters-in-law, John Bender, Jr., of Covington, Ron and Chris Bender of Mansfield, Don and Stephanie Bender of Starrsville; daughter-in-law, Linda Bender of Grayson; grandchildren, Brett (Erica), Jessica (Scott), Clint (Elaina), Shelley, Dustin, David, Caitlin, Melissa, Dalton, Sloan, Dylan, Stepheney; great-grandchildren, Bella, Anders, Tatum; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Bender will be held Sunday, October 25, 2009, 2 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Rd., with Rev. J.J. Wilson and Rev. Jason Dees officiating, and entombment following in Memory Chapel Mausoleum in Lawnwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Covington-Building Fund, 1139 Usher Street, Covington, GA 30014.
