Mrs. Jean Conner Davenport, age 83, a lifelong resident of Newton County passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. She was born June 13, 1930 in Covington, Georgia to the late Glen and Lottie Reynolds Conner. Mrs. Davenport started her career at an early age moving to Atlanta and living with her Aunt and Uncle for five years while she worked at Sears and then she returned home to Newton County and started her career with Life of Georgia that would span over 35 years. A woman of strong faith and a true Christian in every sense on the word, Mrs. Davenport face the challenges in her life by turning to her Lord. She was a longtime member of Alcovy United Methodist Church where she played the piano for many years, starting at age 13 and continuing to play the piano even while attending church at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church well into her seventies. Mrs. Davenport was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Horace Davenport in June of 2005. She is survived by a host of cousins, other family and many close friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Davenport will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Conner officiating. Interment will follow at Cornish Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10am until 11am Saturday prior to the service. J.C.
