Jack Lawrence "Larry" McMichael, 64, of Greensboro, died Saturday, Dec. 29,  at The Medical Center of Central Georgia, Macon. He was born in Porterdale in 1948, the son of the late William Robert "Bill" McMichael and Lucille Kitchens McMichael. Mr. McMichael grew up in Covington, graduating from Newton County High School in 1966.

He was the first member of his family to graduate college, receiving a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from The University of Georgia. The November after graduation, he was drafted and served his country honorably in the United States Army for two years.

In 1977, Larry married the former Melanie Ann Carey of Oglethorpe County at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Athens. They moved to Washington, where Mr. McMichael owned and operated McMichael Drug Company for 29 years and raised two sons. He was twice elected to serve on the Washington City Council. He also served as president of the Washington Wilkes Jaycees and Washington Wilkes Country Club, where he was a long-standing member and where he taught his sons the great game they all shared. He was also a former board member of First Union bank in Washington.

Mr. McMichael was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Washington. After moving to Lake Oconee eight years ago, he joined Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church. When not working, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, boating on Lake Oconee and spoiling his dog Mackie.
