Howard Walter Meyer, 93 of Covington, passed away Aug. 11 at Putnam Health & Rehab Center. He was born in 1920 in Bird Island, Minn., the son of Ella and Fred Meyer. Mr. Meyer was retired from Hercules Inc. and was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church in Covington. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Army 311th fighter group as a parachute rigger and repairman. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Virginia Meyer: his parents, Ella and Fred Meyer, of Bird Island, Minn.; and his sister, Margaret Shultz.
Mr. Meyer is survived by his son and his daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Pam Meyer, of Jacksonville, Fla.; his stepchildren, Bonnie Cawthon, Sandra Frady, and Randy and his wife Jeanne Walker, all of Eatonton; his granddaughter, Allison Meyer, of Jacksonville; step-grandchildren, Steve Walker, Scott Walker, Bruce Robinson and his wife Cindy, Kevin Frady, Jay Cawthon and his wife Jennifer and Lance Cawthon and his wife Latrelle; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, with the Rev. Carol Standard and Joe Peabody officiating. Interment will be at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
