Mr. Henry James "Jimmy" Wright III, Coach Wright, died Jan. 27. The only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry James (Zenobia Strong) Wright Sr., Mr. Wright, along with his three sisters, was raised and educated in Newton County. He graduated from R.L. Cousins High School in 1957 and attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, graduating in 1961. He then served in the U.S. Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, he continued his education, receiving a master’s degree from Georgia State University. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. A very hard worker, Mr. Wright held numerous positions throughout his career. He taught at R.L. Cousins High School, Clement Middle School and Newton County High School. He coached basketball for many years, winning several championships. In 1986, Mr. Wright was inducted into the Morris Brown Sports Hall of Fame. He was a very dedicated member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Covington where he served on the Steward and Trustee boards for many years. He loved God, his family, his church, his pastor and his friends.

Surviving are daughters Charita N. Wright, Kristi Hector; granddaughters Anisa and Imani Wright; sisters Sarah (Felton) Barnes, Betty (Marion) Robinson, Shirley Foster; brother-in-law Herman Foster; devoted caregiver Lottie Ball; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and dear friends.

Funeral services are today, Feb. 2, at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, Social Circle, with Bishop William Davenport and the Rev. Thomas Stegall officiating. Interment follows in Westside Cemetery.
