Mrs. Helen H. Wilson, 80, of Oxford, died Jan. 1. The daughter of the late George and Mabel Stiddam Hughes, she was born in Ashland, Ky., in 1928. A longtime resident of Oxford, Mrs. Wilson was known as “Granny” and loved to ride her John Deere cutting grass and working outside. Mrs. Wilson loved watching the Atlanta Braves, the Georgia Bulldogs and game shows. She retired from Bellsouth after 25 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was preceded in death by husband Jack R. Wilson and son Mr. George Robert “Bob” Hughes.

            Surviving are daughter Mrs. J Ellen “Jody” Hughes of Oxford, son Mr. Pat Wilson of Oxford, daughter-in-law Mrs. Martha Hughes of Covington, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 3 in the chapel of Wheeler funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at While Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth. The Rev. Sidney Bailey will officiate. Friends may sign the on-line registry at www.wheelerfuneralhome.com.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2.
