Gerald “Jerry” Roy Hawes, 72 of Loganville, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Rockdale Medical Center in Conyers. He was a loving husband, stepfather and grandfather. Jerry enjoyed working outside with his flowers and bonsai trees. He loved camping, fishing and woodworking, and could crochet and knit. Jerry would go out of his way to help other people and he was “just Jerry”. He was born in Fremont, Michigan, to the late Andrew Jewell, Sr. and Effie Leona Powell Hawes. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Pat Dawes and brother, Andy “Junior” Hawes.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Ola Hawes of Loganville; children Harvey Rutledge of Covington, Brian Rutledge of Monticello, and David Moon of Walnut Grove; brothers and sisters-in-law Don and Inez Hawes of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jim and Sharron Hawes of Fremont, Michigan and Harold Eugene Hawes of Arkansas.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 6, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Josh Conner officiating. Interment followed at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.
