George (Skeet) Harper

Mr. George (Skeet) Harper, 93, of Porterdale, passed away April 30. Mr. Harper worked for Bibb Manufacturing Company for 20 years, before retiring from Hercules, in 1983, after 14 years of service. He was Past Master of the Pace Masonic Lodge No. 558 F&AM, in Porterdale, where he was a member for 60 years. In addition, he was a faithful member of County Line Baptist Church.

Mr. Harper enjoyed gardening, riding through the country visiting his old home place, visiting the mountains and traveling to the beach. He loved coaching baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Mr. Harper was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife Susie (Jones) Harper; son and daughter-in-law George Robert and Genell Harper; grandson George Daniel (Danny) Shiver; parents George Thomas and Martha (Durden) Harper; sisters Florence Moon and Lottie Freeman; brothers Lewis Harper, Clifford Harper, Rosser Harper and Thomas Harper.

Survivors include his daughters Nettie Sue Harper, Rosalyn Shiver, both of Covington; sons and daughter-in-law Wayne and Rita Harper of Buckhead, Keith Harper of Covington; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law L.C. (Bud) and Peggy Harper of Covington; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Harper will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 3, at the Chapel of Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, with Dr. Ronny Barnes and the Rev. J. Clifton Brown officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park with full Masonic Rites.
