Mr. Gary Alonzo Hancock, 75, of Covington, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2018.  He was born Dec. 28, 1942 in Griffin to Grady Jackson and Lucy Annie McCard Hancock who have preceded him in death.  Mr. Hancock graduated from high school in Griffin and went on to the University of Georgia where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science degree.  He put that degree to work following graduation being recruited as a microbiologist and working his 34-year career with the Centers for Disease Control.  Mr. Hancock was a member of Alcovy United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed photography, movies and was a self-taught Flamenco Guitarist.  

Mr. Hancock is survived by his wife of 55 years Peggy McIntosh Hancock of Covington, his children Travis and Dawn Hancock of Lilburn and Kevin Hancock of Rockmart, his grandson Blake Hancock and his wife Rosemary of Gainesville and his great-grandson Grady Alonzo Hancock. 

Graveside services for Mr. Hancock will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14 at Lawnwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Dan Dixon officiating.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at J.C. Harwell and Son.  J.C.
