Flora Carolyn Beard Shorter, 82, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 surrounded by her family. 

She was a former member of Bible Apostolic Church, Atlanta West Pentecostal Church, Faith Tabernacle and current member of Higher Praise Tabernacle. Carolyn enjoyed being a property manager overseeing 50 houses and apartment complex; teaching grade school, where she was nicknamed "Sergeant;" loved wrestling with her grandsons; and spending time with her family. 

She was born in Clinton, Indiana, to William Leslie and Thelma M. Beard. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Floyd Elmo (Joe) Shorter, Sr., brother, William and sisters, Lona and Patricia. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Samuel McCaskill, of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, Floyd and Johnene Shorter, Jr., of Covington; Albert and Beth Shorter, of Lawrenceville; Rev. Richard and Joy Shorter, of Covington; Randy and Donna Shorter, of Douglasville; Douglas and Chris Shorter, of Anderson, South Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Jeanie Beard, of Clinton, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at 3: 30 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Higher Praise Tabernacle, 3915 GA Highway 162, Covington, GA 30016 with Pastor Kenneth Morrell and the Rev. Richard Shorter officiating. Mrs. Shorter will lie in state from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Rose Haven Memorial Park, 8640 Rose Ave., Douglasville, GA. 30134.
