The family of Etha Kathleen (Wilson) Carter Johnson announces the permanent relocation of the "Happy House." Born in 1915, in Walton County, Mrs. Johnson celebrated her heavenly flight at the age of 97 on September 15.
A lady of great faith, she was an active member of Porterdale Baptist Church in her early years and had been a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Covington since 1963. She was employed as a winder tender for Bibb Manufacturing Co. for 36 years, and was a member, for more than 30 years, of the Porterdale Woman’s Club, where she developed and nurtured many lasting friendships. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Mrs. Johnson’s special gift of hospitality made those who visited her home feel welcomed, and they fondly referred to her home as the "Happy House."
She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and engaging in the lives of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Carter; second husband, Alton Johnson; son, Ronald Carter; and her granddaughter, Stephanie Carter.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Harriet Carter, Don Carter, Pete and Gail Carter; daughter-in-law, Libby Carter; step-daughter, Louise McGiboney; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at the First Baptist Church of Covington, with the Rev. J. J. Wilson and the Rev. Charles Reynolds officiating, Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 18.
