Ms. Emmitt Lee "Emma Lee" Heard Marks, 67, was born Aug. 30, 1945, in Newton County to Emmitt Eugene (Ellen Vason) Heard Sr. She departed this life on June 12.

Ms. Marks was a devoted employee of East Newton Elementary School for 27 years. During her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, fishing and spending time with her family. She was a proud mother of six children; son Charlie Newton Marks Jr., preceded her in death. She is survived by children Stacey Marks, Keith Marks, Meeko (Andrew) Smith, Tony Heard and Tonya (Otonicar) Aikens, all of Covington; brothers Howard Heard of Hickory, N.C., and Eugene Heard; sisters Ruby Heard Kelly and Mary Ann Heard, all of Covington; eight grandchildren KeTyrus Marks, Taylor Smith, Jordan Heard, Takaiyah Heard, Jaden Marks, QJ Aikens, Kaden Marks and Taleyah Aikens; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Ms. Marks will be held at 11 a.m., tomorrow, June 17, at The Church at Covington, 11975 Ga. Highway 142, Oxford, with the Rev. David Payne as pastor and the Rev. Nathaniel Snead as eulogist. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be at Young Funeral Home, 3106 West Street, today, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
