Elizabeth Hicks Belcher, 92, of Abbeville, Ala., formerly of Starrsville, died Aug. 8, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville. Mrs. Belcher was born in Cherokee County, the daughter of the late Albert J. Hicks and Lilly Mae Herndon Hicks. She was reared in Woodstock and Marietta and lived in Starrsville, many years before moving to Abbeville in 2007. Mrs. Belcher was a member of the Starrsville United Methodist Church. She was retired from Lockheed-Martin in Marietta. Mrs. Belcher was preceded in death by her husband William Clifton Belcher; sisters Dottie McCoy and Juanita Gunter; and brothers Billy Hicks, Earnest Hicks and Howard Hicks.

Surviving are daughters Betty Belcher and friend David Owens of DeLand, Fla. and Peggy Roberts and husband Homer L. Roberts, Abbeville; grandchildren Lin Roberts and wife Kelly Roberts, Troy, Ala., and Bill Roberts and wife Donna Roberts of Headland; great-grandchildren Trip Roberts, Coleby Roberts and Mary Beth Davis; sister Annette Poor and husband Leroy Poor, Kennesaw; brother Joe Hicks, Flagler Beach, Fla.; sisters-in-law Helen Hicks, Marietta, and Jean Hicks, Raleigh, N.C.; brother-in-law Denward Gunter, Dunellon, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, August 11, in the Starrsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Belcher Family Cemetery in Starrsville. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary before the funeral.
