Charlton “Charlie” Aten

Charlton “Charlie” Aten, of Oxford, was born in Gibson, Pensylvania Aug. 12, 1934 and passed away Oct. 5, 2018. 

Charlie was preceded in death by his son Jeffery Aten, parents, Floyd and Catherine; brothers, Ivan and Garcy; and sisters Dorothy and Ella. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan; son, Mark (Sidonie), of Charleston, South Carolina; daughter, Lisa, of Oxford; daughter-in-law, Debbie, of Charlotte, North Carolina; special son, Chuck Green, of Wooster, Ohio; grandchildren, Justin (Danielle), Brandi (Sam), Cayce, Lauren, Katie, Erin (Ben) and Michael; and great-grandchildren, Shelby, Finley, Riley and Roxy. 

Charlie was employed for 25 years by Ohio State’s OARDC in the Forestry Department. He coached women’s travel volleyball and Wooster High volleyball and softball. Charlie was involved with the Wooster Parks and Recreation as a player and official for many years. After retiring, he moved to Georgia to coach his granddaughters in fastpitch softball. He finally “retired” again and moved to Myrtle Beach to enjoy Friday night bingo. 

As per his wishes, there will be no services. The family will hold a memorial at a later date.
