Charles “Pete” L. Smith of Covington passed away July 27, 2016, at the age of 74. Charles was a member of Christ Cornerstone Church. He was retired from Mobile Chemical Company and the Newton County Board of Education. He was also employed by Martha Mills of Thomaston, Georgia and the state of Georgia.

Smith served in the military. He was a fisher and huntsman, and he loved family cook-outs. He loved and was loved by everyone. He had an unusual sense of humor. He was a member of the Pace Masonic Lodge in Covington and Henry County Shriners Club.

He was preceded in death by his spouse of 47 years Patricia M. Smith; daughter Miriam Anne Smith; father and mother Curtis and Inez M. Smith; sister Margaret S. Dickerson; and brother C. J. Smith.

Survivors include his spouse Donna B. Smith; sons Timothy (Melissa), Steven Smith (Renee); stepsons Russell (Renae) Watts, Timothy Ray (Amy) Watts; son of his heart Tony Walden; stepdaughter Vicki W. (Danny) Rowland; sisters Mary (Tommy) Crisp and Deborah Newton; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and uncles, nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Christ Cornerstone Church, 1020 Oakhill Road, Covington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Christ Cornerstone Church.
