Betty R. Isom, of Covington, died February 25, 2009, at the age of 83. Born in Toledo, Ohio, January 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Anna Bushroe Chinneck. Mrs. Isom moved from her birthplace to Dearborn, MI at age 11, graduated from Fordson High School in 1943, and afterward became employed by Ford Motor Company, where she served as Executive Secretary to Lewis D. Crusoe, Vice President of the Ford Division. After transferring from Michigan to Georgia in 1978, she entered part time employment with C & S Bank and in 1987 retired from Bank of America, the successor company. Mrs. Isom was a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church in Oxford, GA, where she was a member of the Uncle Nath Sunday School Class, and also served as substitute organist. She was active in the music community of Covington, GA and was a member of the Song of Atlanta Barbershop Chorus for several years. Mrs. Isom was preceded in death by her eldest granddaughter, Dr. Amanda Layne Isom on April 3, 2005.

Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Joseph M. Isom; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Nancy Isom, Thomas and Rose Ann Isom, John and Donna Isom; grandchildren, Matthew Isom, Alissa Isom, Thomas Isom II, Meagan Isom Babb; great-grandchildren, Kevin Cooper Babb, Hudson Joseph Babb.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Isom will be held at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 28, 2:30 PM, with Rev. Brian Dale and Dr. Amy Morgan officiating and a reception following at Lovern Hall. A private family interment will be held at a later date at National Veterans Cemetery in Cherokee County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation s be made to the Music Fund at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, PO Box 117, Oxford, GA 30054.
