Mrs. Betty Polk Ozburn, age 80, a lifelong resident of Newborn passed away Feb. 1, 2017. She was born in Newton County on Feb. 9, 1936 to Willie and Mary Alice Campbell who have preceded her in death. Mrs. Ozburn was a loving, compassionate, Christian woman who worked as a nurse’s aide for a number of years at Newton General Hospital; she was a lifelong member of Newborn United Methodist Church and served on the City Council in Newborn. She was active in the United Methodist Women’s group and sang in the choir. Mrs. Ozburn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her first husband; Luther Steven Polk, Jr., her second husband, Albert Ozburn, Jr., her daughter, Mary Hazel Polk Johnson and her sister, Jeanne Adams.
Mrs. Ozburn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; Luther Steven Polk III and Wanda of Newborn, her son-in-law; Philip E. Johnson and Anita, of Covington her grandchildren; Suzanne Polk of Newborn, Meridith Johnson and Eddie of Neptune Beach, FL, Luther Steven Polk IV, Charles Shannon Polk, Philip E. Johnson, Jr. and Leah, and Will Polk and Ashlee all of Newborn. She is also survived by her great grandchildren; Abby, Noah, Mary Alice, Laynie, Charlie, Mary Hazel, Spooner, Lillie, Chelsea and Lila along with her brother and sister-in-law; Lee Campbell and Phyllis of Lithia Springs and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ozburn will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at Newborn United Methodist Church with Reverend CeCe Nicholich officiating. Interment will follow at Newborn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home.
