Branin Burdette will no longer be Newton County's zoning administrator. Board of Commissioner Chairman Kathy Morgan made the announcement at their meeting on Tuesday night as she thanked Burdette for his services to the county saying he has done an excellent job.
Burdette's last day with the county will be on Aug. 29. He said he will move back to his hometown of Seattle, Wash. to take a new position as a zoning inspector.
Burdette said he previously worked for the city of Seattle for three years, but he was laid off. He said he was on a re-call list with the city and they called him to inform him of an open position.
He also said he started working as a zoning administrator for Newton County in Dec. 2010. He said he has enjoyed working for the county because it has given him the opportunity to learn how to write new codes and ordinances.
Burdette said the county will advertise for a zoning inspector in a variety of ways. He said they will advertise locally, nationally and statewide on websites that revolve around zoning and planning. There is no word on when that process will begin.
