Lawson Beshear was out riding go-karts with a friend when the cart turned over and he broke his arm. After much consideration, Beshear chose pink, over all other colors, for his cast.
"My bus driver had breast cancer, and I wanted to honor her and a family friend that was recently diagnosed. That's why I chose to get a pink cast," Beshear said.
When he went to school the next day, Beshear said that his friends were shocked. Some asked him why he received a pink cast and others were excited that he took a stand and chose pink to honor the women he knew who had breast cancer and those he didn't know who are fighting today. He said that he wouldn't change anything about his decision.
"It takes nothing to wear a pink cast, but everything to fight cancer," Beshear said.
Beshear hopes that others will learn from his example and become more involved and participate in Relay for Life this year.
"All cancer is bad and can strike the people we love at any given moment," he said.
