Would-be bank robber changes mind

A would-be robber learned the hard way Thursday that even if you leave the money, it's the intent that counts.

Eddie L. Mack Jr., 41, reportedly entered the Bank of North Georgia on U.S. Highway 278 at Mill Street around 10 a.m. and demanded money from the teller. However, when he was presented with the cash, he changed his mind and left the bank on foot.

Within 10 minutes Mack was apprehended after a woman walking on Newton Drive told officers she had seen a man matching his description run past her near the Covington Y. When located, Mack gave up without incident and was "very cooperative," according to Capt. Ken Malcom.

He is currently being held at the Newton County Detention Center, charged with robbery.
