A 23-year-old Covington woman was injured when her boyfriend accidentally shot her at a residence in Social Circle early Saturday morning, according to Social Circle Police Chief Terry Sosbee.

The pair initially reported that Kierra Weaver had been hit in a drive-by shooting, but a subsequent investigation by deputies located the weapon, which was linked to 20-year-old Christopher Smith, a convicted felon.

Both face charges for false report of a crime. Smith is also facing charges of aggravated battery, tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. More charges are pending.

Weaver was taken to a hospital for treatment of a non life-threatening injury.
