Woman arrested for beating her husband

A night out ended in an arrest after a woman allegedly assaulted her husband because he wouldn't let her drink and drive.

Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff's Office were called to a home on Joy Circle around 2 a.m. Sunday in reference to an assault. On the way there they saw a man walking along the side of the road with a woman following him in a vehicle.

The man walked to the patrol car when the deputies stopped but the female drove away. When asked who had been following him in the car, the man reportedly identified the driver as his wife, 28-year-old Crystal Marie Hankins.

He told deputies that he and his wife had been at Hammer's Getaway drinking and everything had been fine. When they got home, she said she wanted to drive "to town" to get something to eat. He told her she had to stay at the home and couldn't drive because she'd been drinking and she lost control, according to the report.

The man told officers that she had screamed and threw things at him and that he ran into a bathroom to get away. She reportedly forced the door open and threw a drill at him, causing a "small hole in his left butt cheek."

The victim told deputies that he ran past his wife and tried to seek refuge in the master bedroom, but that she followed, grabbed the bed headboard and threw it at him. She apparently hit herself in the mouth with it, but also struck him, causing a cut on his wrist.

The woman allegedly grabbed her husband's pants as he ran, causing them to come off. Reports indicate she then grabbed him in the groin and drew blood with her fingernails. He then ran from the home and started to walk down the street as Hankins followed in her car.

His wife told deputies that he had grabbed her, held her on the floor, and hit her in the mouth, busting her lip. She said that when she called 911, he left the home.

After investigating both sides of the story, deputies arrested Hankins and charged her with DUI, Family Violence Act battery and criminal trespass. She was transported to the Newton County Detention Center.
