Over 100 volunteers converged on the Newton County FFA/FCCLA Center Saturday, braving the cold temperatures and blustery winds, to clean up the grounds and plant trees in honor of the upcoming inauguration of Georgia Governor-elect Nathan Deal. It is by the request of Deal that Newton County’s center — along with 31 other sites around the state — is participating in "With a Servant’s Heart — A Day of Service." Although Deal did not attend, Secretary of State Brian Kemp was in attendance. Deal’s inauguration is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Georgia State Capital in Atlanta. He will be the state’s 82nd governor.
