The hours of the Newton County Trash Collection Convenience Centers will be altered during the Christmas weekend.

According to a release from Keep Covington/Newton County Beautiful, the centers will be open half the day on Saturday, Dec. 24. All 11 centers will then be closed entirely on Sunday, Dec. 25, Monday Dec. 26 and Tuesday, Dec. 27. The trash collection centers will re-open for regular hours on Wednesday, Dec. 28.

The centers were under a similar schedule a year ago, closing on Christmas Eve and reopening on Dec. 28.

However, upon return from the Christmas weekend, trash was piled up outside the gates of the McGiboney and Oak Hill centers. Newton County Sheriff’s Office deputies were required to direct traffic near the centers as public works employees cleaned up trash bags dumped at the gates.
