Today is the deadline for Georgians to register to vote if they want to participate in the general election on Nov. 6.
Anyone can confirm their voter registration status through the Georgia Secretary of State's website. The site also provides access to applications, instructions and information about where counties will host early voting sites.
In Newton County, residents can register to vote until 5 p.m. at the Newton County Board of Elections, 1113 Usher St. in Covington.
Aside from the presidential race, Georgia has 14 state Senate and 43 state House seats on the ballot in contested elections. Newton County has contested races for county chairman, sheriff, two board of commissioners seats, a board of education seat and county coroner.
Voters will also decide whether to amend the state Constitution regarding the authorization of charter schools and how the state can rent buildings for its use.
