Political season is in full swing, and The Covington News and Newton Conservative Liberty Alliance will be hosting a forum Friday for state representative candidates for District 112.

The forum will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at Peachtree Academy’s Covington location, 14101 U.S. Highway 278.

District 112 contains the bulk of eastern Newton County and all of Morgan County, and the seat is being vacated by Rep. Doug Holt, R-Social Circle, after a 10-year run.

The three candidates who have publicly announced their candidacy to date are Newton County residents Aaron Brooks and Ester Fleming and Morgan County resident Dave Belton, all Republicans. However, qualifying for the seat is next week, so more candidates could still enter the race.

Any candidates who are planning to qualify can contact The News or Liberty Alliance to be invited to the forum.

Brooks and Belton have confirmed they will attend, while Fleming won’t be attending due to a prior commitment. For in-depth bios on all three candidates, visit CovNews.com.

Candidates will plan to stay after the forum to meet with constituents.

The News and Liberty Alliance are seeking questions from readers and constituents. Feel free to post questions on either organization’s Facebook site, to email news@covnews.com or newtonconservativeliberty@yahoo.com, or to call The News at 770-787-6399 or Liberty Alliance member Elizabeth Allen at 678-367-7566.

Brooks is a member of the Liberty Alliance but will not participate in selecting questions. Neither candidate will be given questions ahead of time.

The News will be live-streaming the event at CovNews.com; an email alert with the link will be sent out just prior to the event’s start. The full recording of the forum will also be posted on CovNews.com after the event.
