The Covington Y inspires children to be healthy

The Y's mission to be "open to and serving all" includes inspiring our children to live healthy and fit lives.

As this community's leading resource for wellness, the Covington Y realized a need to provide a structured exercise program for their younger members. The new Kid's Fitness program at the Y (Fit Kids) for ages 7-12, provides exercise in an environment that makes fitness fun.

Fit Kids is currently offered at the Y on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m. and is included with a family membership. Classes rotate between Running Club, Yoga Motion, Zumbatomic and Junior Ranger Circuit.

• Running Club teaches basic running tips and then the kids run together. They are tracking their miles, working toward completing a marathon 26.2 miles.

• Zumbatomic is a Zumba class for kids that offers kid-friendly Latin dance routines focusing on increasing self-confidence, boosting metabolism and improving coordination.

• Yoga Motion is yoga designed specifically for kids. Children learn the importance of flexibility while improving balance through basic yoga moves redesigned for kids.

• Junior Ranger Circuit is a fun version of boot camp. This class uses body weight exercises to increase strength and stamina.

The goal of Fit Kids is to inspire children at an early age to become active and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Stop by the Covington Y or call (770) 787-3908 for more information on how your children can get involved.
