A 19-year-old Covington teen remains in the Newton County Jail after he allegedly raped a 3-year-old girl early Saturday morning.

According to 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell, Public Information Officer with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were initially called to a home on Shenandoah Drive about a runaway juvenile, but when they arrived and began to investigate, they found there was more to the story.

The little girl and her mother were at the home of Brandon Arnold, 19, who is an acquaintance.

The child was asleep in a back bedroom and the mother was heading to check on her toddler when she reportedly saw Arnold walk from the room. When she checked on her daughter she realized that something was amiss and called authorities.

Arnold reportedly fled the home.

He was later found and arrested and charged with rape and aggravated child molestation.
