Winning ladies: Five Newton County girls were on cheer team that recently won second-place at a United Youth Football Conference Cheer Competition and was awarded the "Atlanta Falcon's Cheer Squad of the Week" in early November. The ladies are Mikenzie Armstead, fifth grade at Fairview Theme Elementary, N'kia Johnson, fifth grade at Ficquett Elementary, Kiara Cannon, fifth grade at Live Oak Elementary, Jamiah Giles, sixth grade at Cousins Middle School and Amayyah Smith-Browning, seventh grade at Indian Creek Middle School.

Commissioners deny rezoning for ‘Project Paradise’

NEWTON COUNTY – Despite its fancy name, the Newton County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted against “Project Paradise.” The commissioners met for nearly 4.5 hours on Tuesday, where one of the main discussion points was consideration to rezone 175 acres on Old Atlanta Highway from residential to light industrial.
