Thirty-three local children received a special treat Thursday, after receiving gifts thanks to Walmart and the Covington Police Department, Newton County 911 Center, Georgia State Patrol and the Covington Fire Department during their annual Shop with a Hero event.

Previously called Shop with a Cop, this year expanded to include more city emergency workers.

Each child got to spend $100 on gifts for themselves. The gift cards were provided from funds from the Covington Police Who Care and a grant from Wal-Mart.
