On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the leventh month, the city of Covington and Newton County celebrated its veterans Wednesday.

The county, city and American Legion Post 32 gathered in front of the Veterans Memorial on the Square and laid a wreath in honor of the area's veterans. The Marine JROTC color guard from Newton High School and the Brass Quartet from Eastside High School also participated in the celebration.

Charlie Tucker was the keynote speaker, thanking all the Purple Heart recipients in the crowd and talking of bravery.
