Construction is mostly complete on the Turner Lake Road roundabout project, but it will remain closed pending installation of streetlights.
The lights are on order and are needed to ensure motorist safety, said Billy Skinner, transportation manager for the city of Covington.
He said it's unsafe to put motorists into an unfamiliar traffic control structure such as a roundabout without adequate lighting. "It's so dark down there," he said.
The lights have been on order since August.
A portion of Turner Lake Road has been closed for the project since June 9. The project was estimated at the time to take up to six months to complete.
The price tag for the project is $775,622.42, which was paid for with federal stimulus money. J.J.E. Constructors served as contractors for the project.
