Newton Medical Center is showing off its newly renovated BirthCare Center at an open house from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
The $2.08 million project included the renovation of eight labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms, eight separate postpartum rooms and three observation beds.
Newton Medical doctors currently deliver about 815 babies a year, but after the changes, the hospital hopes to build up to a delivery level of more than 1,000 babies, hospital CEO Jim Weadick said previously.
The center has four full-time OB-GYN physicians and three physicians who are in the BirthCare Center on a partial basis.
The renovation of the center follows the hospital upgrading to a Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in 2009, which allowed more babies to remain at Newton Medical instead of being sent to Atlanta.
