Rain and river close road

The heavy and persistent rains this week forced the Yellow River out of its banks and closed Sockwell Road northwest of Oxford Thursday morning. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City said Wednesday that the road would be flooded with up to four feet of water. The rain also forced the Yellow River out of its banks in Porterdale.

A Newton County spokesman said the county issued a mandatory evacuation order for part of the Riverside Estates RV Park on Wednesday..
