Porterdale special election

The city of Porterdale will hold a special election Tuesday, March 17, to fill the vacant city council post 5 seat. Lowell Chambers and Andy L. Grimes are the two candidates on the ballot. (For profiles of the candidates, go to www.covnews.com)

Those registered to vote in Porterdale may vote from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Porterdale Fire Department on Ga. Highway 81. Votes will be tabulated immediately after polls close at the firehouse. Former councilmember Kay Piper resigned her post 5 seat in early November 2008 due to health reasons.

 

Social Circle liquor by the drink referendum

A referendum on the sales of "liquor by the drink" in Social Circle will take place Tuesday, March 17. Registered voters can come to the Social Circle City Hall at 138 East Hightower Trail from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. to cast their ballots. The proposed amendment would allow the sales of mixed drinks at restaurants to be sold and consumed on the premises.
