Porterdale Mayor Arline Chapman swears in Officer Ashley Kelley Monday.

A small-town police department just got a little bigger.

Officer Ashley Kelley became the newest member of the Porterdale Police Department after being sworn in by Mayor Arline Chapman on Monday, Sept. 22, according to Investigator Eddie Manders.

Kelley recently graduated from the Georgia Public Safety Training Center Basic Mandate Course in session 37 on Sept. 18, Manders said in an email. Training lasted 11 weeks and included firearms proficiency, defensive tactics and emergency vehicle operations.

Manders and the Porterdale PD “would like to take the time to say congratulations to Officer (Kelley),” who is “looking forward to starting a long and prosperous career with the Porterdale Police Department.”
