A pizza delivery man reportedly was robbed and pepper-sprayed while delivering pizzas in Oxford Sunday.
A report from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy responded to the area of Oxford Road around 10:30 p.m. in reference to a robbery. According to the report, a delivery driver for the Pizza Hut at U.S. Highway 278 was delivering pizzas to a residence.
Deputy Felicia Jefferson said when the 21-year-old pizza delivery driver arrived at the address, no one came to the door; but she said as he went back to his vehicle, he noticed someone, come to the porch from the side of the house.
"He went up to give the subject the pizzas. He looked down at the receipt to give the man the total, when he looked back up the subject pepper-sprayed him in the face," Jefferson said." He went to get help, and then when the deputies responded back to the residence, it was discovered that it was actually a vacant home."
Jefferson said the thief took $48 worth of food from the delivery man.
She said the delivery man described the robber as a tall black man.
The case has been turned over to the NCSO Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation, Jefferson said.
