Students from Newton and Jasper County FFA and 4-H chapters braved the cold at the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center on Saturday to learn how to care for their show calves.

To make a beautiful show calf, several things must come together like proper feeding, daily hair care and showmanship. Christa Steinkamp, North Region FFA area livestock teacher, organized classroom and hands on experience for local students.

The program was sponsored by the Piedmont Cattlemen's Association.

This field day was a great refresher class for the upcoming local and state livestock shows.

The public may attend the Newton County Classic Livestock show for free on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Newton High School barn. Lambs, hogs, heifers and steers will be shown.
