The airport currently employees two regular full-time employees and two part-time employees; however, City Manager Steve Horton said they have been utilizing the services of a full-time employee from the street department who fills in part time at the airport.
"From time to time, that can be a problem for that department because we're actually taking a guy out from his regular job to work out there," Horton said. "On top of things, as you all know, we have a construction project that is beginning and so that adds on the load of work."

"Just the fact that we are already utilizing somebody for another department, we are asking that you at least convert one of these employees to full-time," Horton said. "Because again when somebody is out sick, it increases the shortfall for the people who are there."
Councilwoman Janet Goodman asked how would it be determined which part-time position would be made full time.

"What will be the determining factor between the two of which employee would be full-time?" Goodman said.

"One of them has some airport aviation training," Horton said. "One is more qualified than the other and has credentials that the other one doesn't have."

After the council approved converting the position, Horton told the council that both of the individuals who hold the part-time position are both certified firefighters. He said having these credentials at the airport would be a good resource.
